Folk costume at Söderslätt

We showcase parts of our collection of fantastic peasant costumes that are described in the museum’s book ”Opplöt röekjol och stubb”. Here you can find woolen skirts, bodices in abundance, knitted sweaters, aprons, caps, trousers, groom's shirts, and much more. The difference between peasant costume and regional costumes is discussed, as well as the tradition of craftsmanship, the origins of museum collections, and why the preserved items represent a limited selection of history.

Christmas traditions at Söderslätt

How did they celebrate Christmas in Trelleborg during the mid and late 19th century? Come and listen to stories from those who lived back then. At the same time, we will bring out and showcase some of the items we have related to Christmas celebrations, primarily from the 20th century.

General store and school

Experience the historical reconstructions  in the museum storage area. The village shop was purchased by the museum in the 1980s, and the interior comes from Tullstorp, but there are also items from other places such as Äspö village shop. The schoolroom consists of items from schools in the Trelleborg municipality. We take a closer look at the environments and explore the fascinating objects found within them.

På en vägg hänger en mängd spadar och andra handredskap.

Horse-drawn carriages, agricultural tools, and the development of the landscape in Söderslätt before 1900.

We take a closer look at all the fantastic carriages in our museum storage. Who owned them and what were they used for? In the same location, you will also find the older agricultural artifacts that were added to the museum's collections in the 1930s and were already old at that time. What do the first reversible plough, which revolutionized agriculture, look like? What did Söderslätt look like during the time of land enclosure, and how has the landscape changed from the 18th century to the present day?

Broderade och vävda textilier i starka färger.

Seat cushions, blankets, and much more

We bring out vibrant textiles, such as woolen embroideries, röllakan, Flemish tapestry, opphämta, tvist, cross-stich, and other fantastic objects from the textile collections. These items are usually hidden in the innermost and darkest rooms of Kulturmagasinet to preserve them in the best possible way.
